Your baby will spend most of his or her time in their crib sleeping. Let’s make it as comfortable as possible with the right baby bedding. Only the best nursery textiles are good enough for your baby. This is how to choose the right baby bedding so your little one will actually sleep like a baby.
Keep your baby close with a moses basket or crib
Experts say that in the first six months of their lives, it is important that babies sleep close to their parents. Let’s admit, it also comforts your mother heart when you hear your baby’s soft breath close to you.
Moses baskets are super easy because they are portable and they fit in every interior. When your baby grows out of it, you can always use your moses basket to store toys or other items such as blankets. A moses basket is perfect for afternoon naps, but at night it’s best to put your baby in a crib or co sleeper.
You can also put up a crib in your living room, most cribs have wooden bars so you can see through the sides to keep an eye on your little one. A crib can be used a bit longer than a moses basket, but once they can sit up unaided it’s better to go for a cot.
Protect your mattress
Because accidents happen faster than you can say ‘oops’, it’s important to choose the right baby bedding. Start with a waterproof mattress protector. Choose for an insulating protector to keep your baby nice and warm. The mattress protector will protect your mattress in case of a leaking diaper. (For new moms, we’re very sorry but yes they do happen.)
Cover up your mattress with fitted sheets or choose a beautiful cover for your moses basket. Most fitted sheets have an elastic band which will keep your sheets from slipping away when your baby wriggles a bit.
When choosing fitted sheets for your baby’s bed, try to go for fitted sheets made out of organic bio cotton. This is all natural cotton, which means that the cotton grows using methods and materials that involve a minimal amount of chemicals. A lot of allergies can be caused by chemicals in cotton fibres, by using organic cotton you prevent these allergies from effecting your baby.

Baby sleeping bag
Sleeping bags are a great and a safe sleeping solution for your baby. A wriggling baby can easily kick away their sheets, but there’s no way to kick away a sleeping bag. So when you use a sleeping bag you don’t have to get up at night to cover up your cold baby. Also your little one will not be able to move itself into an unsafe sleeping position. On top of that, a sleeping bag leaves the head free at all times. So a nice sleeping bag is essential on your baby bedding list.

To swaddle or not to swaddle
Definitely to swaddle! A lot of babies are big fans of swaddling. It gives them a nice and cosy feeling, as if they where laying in your arms. But if you’re baby is going to bed for the night, we would prefer the sleeping bag over the baby wrapper. With a multifunctional baby wrapper you can swaddle your baby to stay nice and warm in their crib, or you can use it in a stroller or bouncer.
Tip: If you want to use the baby wrapper in a stroller or bouncer, look for a Childhome baby wrapper with holes for safety belts. This way your baby feels warm and secure while being safely strapped.
Best baby bedding fabrics
A baby’s skin is highly sensitive so pay special attention to the composition of textiles when picking out baby beddings. Cotton is the most popular choice when it comes to baby bedding fabrics. It is a soft and highly absorbent fabric that feels gentle against a baby’s skin.
Jersey is a soft fabric made out of 100% cotton that is used often for baby bedding textiles. It’s so soft that a good night rest is guaranteed. A plus for the mommies: jersey fabric is very stretchable so making your baby’s bed becomes a bit easier. Jersey materials? A go-to if you ask us!
Childhome’s baby beddings have both the OEKO-TEX® and GOTS label. When a product is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified it complies with numerous regulations that prevent harmful chemicals from being used when producing the fabrics for your baby beddings. The GOTS label guarantees that the production of these fabrics took place in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner.
Every skin is different, so keep a close eye on your baby’s skin. Do you notice some redness when using a new type of fabric? Check out the label to find out which materials might cause these irritations.

Seasonal baby beddings
Because babies can’t control their body temperature completely it is important to keep an eye on the temperature in the room. You can also use seasonal baby beddings. Get a nice and breathable sleeping bag and blanket for those hot summer nights and choose warmer fabrics, like wool or padded blankets, during winter.
Make sure you combine the room temperature with the right baby bedding and pyjama. Don’t go overboard in winter by upping the room temperature AND using wool blankets, this way your baby will be too hot. Use a singlet bodysuit with a summer sleeping bag when the room temperature is over 24°C. From 24°C to 20°C you should use a long-sleeved bodysuit or pyjama with a mild pouched sleeping bag. With room temperatures from 20°C to 18°C you should go for a long-sleeved pyjama with a warm pouched sleeping bag. When the room temperature goes below 18°C, add a singlet bodysuit under the pyjama.
